Description
A thick-bodied, muscular snake with a broad torso that tapers gradually toward a blunt, powerful tail. Its head is wedge-shaped and clearly distinct from the neck, with small, alert eyes and heat-sensing pits along the jaws. The scales are smooth and glossy, patterned in irregular dark brown, black, or reddish saddle-shaped markings over a tan, gray, or olive base, providing effective camouflage against earth and foliage. When coiled, the boa appears dense and heavy rather than long and slender, giving an immediate impression of mass, strength, and coiled restraint.
Tactics
An ambush predator that relies on camouflage and patience. It uses its muscular body to constrict (grapple) prey, cutting off blood flow and breath until the victim collapses.
