Rally/Demoralize
Easy
Rally/Demoralize (Easy) - Can be used to either increase friendly morale or decrease enemy morale (not both at the same time). Skill use is declared at the beginning of the movement phase (segment 10, 20, 30, etc.), and success increases/decreases morale depending on the degree of success for morale checks at the beginning of the next movement phase when the roll is made. Success by 1-25% = +1/-1, 26-50% = +2/-2, etc. This skill can be combined with an appropriate Communication Skill (i.e. Sing, Command, Orate, Intimidate, etc.) or the Play Instrument skill- although only up to the same percentage as the character’s Rally/Demoralize skill. If used in this fashion the character can take no other combat actions for 10 segments (including parries and attacks) and his weapons are reset to zero for combat use the segment before the movement phase. Only one character can use his ability at a time (no stacking) and the result only applies to the next morale check. [Bob the Bold has Rally/Demoralize at 55%, and Orate at 75%. He realizes his men will be in position to charge some enemy orcs on segment 20, therefore on segment 10 he declares his intention to use his Demoralize skill. Since he wants to be able to use his own attack and parry skills he will only roll against his 55% Rally/Demoralize skill. At segment 20 he rolls 37% for his check (before any movement or other actions). This is successful by +18% so the enemy is at a -1 on their morale. Bob declares his unit is also charging so the GM makes a morale check for the orcs, who succeed and stand fast against the charge. Later during the same combat Bob the Bold sees the orcs starting to take heavy casualties and decides on at the start of segment 60 to use his full Demoralize skill combined with his Orate skill. This takes his full energies, so he cannot attack or parry. At the start of segment 70, he rolls his skill check against 110% (his 55% Rally/Demoralize skill plus 55% for his Orate skill (since he cannot use his excess Orate skill). The roll is 23%, which gives the orcs a -4 to their morale check (successful by +87%) in addition to any other modifiers for casualties, etc. The orcs fail their morale check and rout- Bob’s sword and shield are now at 1 segment (they started at zero on segment 69) as his men charge after the fleeing unit.]
